The Franciscan library of the Ittiri monastery, until 2012 was located in its original location at San Pietro in Silki in Sassari, later it was moved to the Ittiri location. It is located in a historic building, built between 1610 and 1707, which recalls typical convent architecture and has undergone extensive restoration work in recent years. Still visible inside today are the large arches that formed the cloister while on the walls are shelves arranged with the many books that can be consulted. The premises are adjacent to the church of St. Francis, which governs one of Ittiri’s two parishes, the other being St. Peter in Chains. The library corpus is a treasure trove of priceless paper treasures: eighty thousand volumes, including some 114 cinquecentine (currently not visible to the public), volumes from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. But also many nineteenth-century and modern books.
