It is a complex consisting of two large wells located in a small square in the old town, along the “Riu Sera” watercourse, now totally underground. In the past, the women of Villanovaforru would come here and using the “lacus,” tubs dug into the stone, wash the family’s clothing and household goods, also using ashes and herbs, to make them white and fragrant. This improvised public washhouse was located in the open air, unprotected by roofing, and around the middle of the last century, the two square-shaped wells, with parapet made of large stone slabs, were built, recently restored and plastered. The wells are located in an elevated position above the road, reached by three short stone steps. In the summer of 2021, Sanlurian artist Lello Porru decorated the walls of the small square with graffiti that draws attention to environmental and energy-saving issues.
