G.B. Dessì Dedoni Chapel and Nursery School

The Dessì building was built in the late 1800s by Mr. and Mrs. Francesco Dessì and Donna Aurelia Dedoni. The chapel, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was likely set up after 1920. The Archbishop of Cagliari, Monsignor Francesco Rossi, entrusted the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity with the building in order to create, at Donna Aurelia Dedoni’s wish, a kindergarten to honor the memory of her son, Giovanni Battista Dessì, who died in the war in 1916 at the age of 26.

In 1929, a bell gable was built that houses a bell dedicated to St. Helen and St. Vincent.

Between 1987 and 2003, following the termination of the agreement between the Congregation and the Foundation’s Board of Directors, the Chapel was expoliated of its furnishings. Only after 2005, under the presidency of Archbishop Pietro Meledina, was the Chapel restored, equipped with the most important elements for the liturgy, and reopened for worship.

In May 2017, on the occasion of the sixth month since Msgr. Meledina’s departure, the Eucharistic Table was embellished with the antependium, depicting the Veil that covered the Chalice and the Maniple from the liturgical outfit of his First Mass.
