Within the archaeological geo-spelunking site Sa Marchesa, there is the Acquacadda cave and the indoor and outdoor exhibition space.
The outdoor exhibition space consists of a forecourt in which geological valences, especially geological and mining sequences, can be observed.
The indoor exhibition space has a small museum in which collections of minerals, fossils, tools used for geological and speleological activities, and reproductions of archaeological artifacts are displayed, as well as a panel with reproductions of human skulls describing the evolution of man.
The site includes the Acquacadda natural cave with archaeological evidence from the Copper Age (2500 B.C.) illuminated by mobile maxi illuminators with LED headlights of different power so that the main environments and speleothems can be visible, and the archaeological excavations In 2017 an inspection was carried out by Prof. Riccardo Cicilloni, Professor of Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Cagliari, an inspection to visit the site of the former Sa Marchesa mine and the Acquacadda/Su Montixeddu cave. Subsequently, on September 2, 2019, the first excavation campaign directed by the same professor began in collaboration with Prof. Elisabetta Marini of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Cagliari.Currently, five excavation campaigns have been carried out, which are bringing to light exceptional evidence of the Monte Claro Culture (Copper Age). The cave has been included in ISPRA’s list of geosites as a site of national interest, the second to obtain such recognition in Sardinia, after the dune system of Arbus.
