The Giara is a plateau of volcanic origin, and evidence of this can be seen in the basalt stones found throughout the area. The Giara is quite extensive and is located at 600 meters above sea level. The entire area is characterized by an almost completely unspoiled environment. We find a rich flora consisting of cork oaks, downy oaks, cistus, lentisk, and asphodel. But the biggest attraction still turns out to be the so-called “Giara horses” with their typical almond-shaped eyes, small stature and thick mane that still populate this area. In addition, you can visit the botanical garden and the Maiore and Piccia marshes, which at this time of year are rich in water and are covered with a veil of little white flowers.
