Holy Cross Church

A jewel of architecture, the Church of Santa Croce has a very ancient history, recorded as early as 1135 in the Condaghe di San Pietro in Silki, an 11th-century document. It stands at the entrance to the town and probably in that area developed the very first nucleus of dwellings. The building, made of limestone, consists of a single nave with a quadrangular apse, as well as its bell tower. Transformations and additions have resulted in a confluence of styles, from Romanesque to Catalan Gothic, well integrated with each other. Inside, numerous furnishings and altars have been restored: among them the high altar in polychrome wood stands out. Also special are the altar of St. George, dating from the 17th-18th centuries, also made of wood and decorated in green and gold, and the altar of the Crucifix (18th century), from the former oratory of Santa Croce. Also of special value is the splendid wooden pulpit.
