The Confraternity Blessed Virgin of Defense was established in 1865 by the inhabitants of Asinara before the forced abandonment of the island. Enrolled in this confraternity, which is still active today, are all Stintinos who are 12 years of age or older.
Each year a prior (obriere) is appointed with the task of organizing the September 8 feast dedicated to the patron saint with the typical procession to the sea. The brethren also attend the main religious services and accompany with their presence all the members of the confraternity on their last journey, wearing the typical dress consisting of a white skirt and shirt, with a blue cape and a cord of the same color.
The headquarters of the confraternity was inaugurated in 2008 and keeps inside the original documents, the robes and a photo gallery with all the priors from the founder to the present day.
