The railway line traversed today by the Little Green Train originated from a project of Cavour later made executive by the Depretis Law in 1879, which financed the installation of narrow gauge trains (0.95 cm track) to be used for the political-economic development of the steel and lumber industries. Later this means of locomotion was used to connect the coasts to the center of the island giving an aid for the development of the economy of inland towns (Mandas, Sorgono Sadali etc.). In Ogliastra the little train runs from Lanusei station to Tortoli, and at present there are still the buildings of the central station near the center of the town, along the railway line that runs parallel to Mons virgilio avenue the various junction toll booths and finally the buildings of Arbatax station.
