Mario Delitala Art Gallery

The Engraving Collection of Master Mario Delitala is set up on the second floor of the town hall.
A native of Orani (Orani 1887- Sassari 1990), he was one of the most relevant graphic artists of the Sardinian twentieth century (the symbol of the Zedda-Piras myrtle label is still his), a nationally known engraver, painter and great innovator of island art.
There are 66 graphic works: woodcuts, etchings, lithographs and two significant oil paintings donated by Delitala himself to the municipality of Orani on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
The collection present in the municipality, has as its main subject two major themes: the sacred: with the representation of the Christians and the Passion; the popular world: with the representation of the trades of daily life of the period between the 1800s and 1900s. The tour starts from the council chamber of the municipality, named after him and dedicated to the artist’s presentation. The two large oils (the shepherd and the fisherman) show an interesting part of the master’s production, namely painting, which alongside engraving and large decorations represent the work as a whole.
