Masonic House

The building, in its present conformation, had been built by the Sanjust family of Teulada, and was purchased in the year 1990 on behalf of the Grand Orient of Italy (G.O.I.) as a suitable venue for hosting the city’s Masonic lodges.
Originally on its grounds stood the Benedictine convent of Our Lady of Montserrat, but over the centuries the original building underwent various transformations.
Just to mention a few, under Philip IV it became the first seat of the University of Cagliari.
Later in the eighteenth century, transformed and adapted, it housed a barracks with adjoining stables, then in one of its large halls found a location for a public city theater, with the name of Baccarini Theater.
Unfortunately, in 1852, due to the collapse of some of the vaults, the building was finally abandoned and purchased for transformation into a new aristocratic palace.
Inside, spread over two floors, are large halls connected by an ancient and valuable staircase that departs from the main entrance and completes the monumental stylistic character of the entire building.
