The Monument to the Blessing Christ on St. Dionigi Street is a large concrete statue erected in the Vaiano Valle area, at the height of house number 5 where the route of the historic street merges into the new ones, which are wider and therefore more suitable for the current flow of traffic.
The historical origin of this statue is unknown; one legend has it that it miraculously appeared from the waters of the nearby Vettabbia, an irrigation ditch that is currently buried.
More credibly it is thought that it was wanted by the believing people to welcome with the blessing Christ wayfarers and pilgrims coming from the south and, in particular, from the nearby Borgo di Chiaravalle, where the majestic Abbey of the same name stands.
The large size was thus justified by the fact that it could be seen from afar.
In the Milanese vulgate this beloved symbol of the blessing Christ is celebrated as “el Signurun de Milan.”
