Mount Acuto

Berchidda still retains places and traditions worth discovering and visiting. From archaeological sites, to fantastic breathtaking landscapes, from food and wine to typical local hospitality.

One of the most interesting sites is certainly Mount Acuto. Evoker of myths and legends, an essential part of Berchiddese oral tradition. In this much-vaunted mountain, an important archaeological settlement finds its home and hospitality, crossing time and history to present itself to us in mystical guise.

The recent discovery of a dolme, a large number of tafoni and shelters under rock, the discovery all over the hill of objects of use, fragments of obsidian, variously worked pottery shards, a casting die for metals and a bracelet from the Nuragic period, point to an extended chronological span from the oldest, prehistoric settlements to more recent ones from the historical, ancient or medieval period. The fortress belonged to Adelasia of Torres and her husband Ubaldo Visconti, then to the Doria and Malaspina families and finally to the Judges of Arborea. Remaining, in ruins, are sections of walls, remains of a tower and a cistern. The path leading to the top of the mountain perfectly reproduces the times described above, from the Nuragic period to the medieval period of which today remain the ruins of the castle, the fortress of Monte Acuto. All this surrounded by strong landscape and naturalistic emotions, with a three hundred and sixty degree view of the entire territory.
