Municipal Historical Archives

The historical archives of the Municipality of Guspini boast an extraordinarily rich documentation that covers a chronologically long span of 3 centuries, from 1630 to 1968; the oldest deeds, two sealed parchments dated 1253 and 1258, are preserved in the State Archives of Pisa.

An initial reorganization of the documentary holdings was carried out in the early 20th century. In the fascist period two discards were carried out. After World War II, the historical archives were deposited in the Opera Nazionale Maternità e Infanzia (formerly O.N.M.I.) an Italian welfare organization founded in 1925 for the purpose of protecting and safeguarding mothers and children in distress where it remained until 1988.

Stored in later years at other municipal premises, it was recently returned to the former ONMI following the building’s renovation work.
