The Muniss exhibition space, Science Museum of the University of Sassari, is located in the Piandanna Bionaturalistic Complex. Among period furnishings and laboratory counters, over which the gavial ” Gavina”, the museum’s mascot, keeps watch, the historical-scientific itinerary unfolds, presenting evidence and materials from the various collections and telling the story of the University of Sassari (starting from its foundation in 1562), the research of scholars, and the variety of collections.
The exhibition is expanded virtually by links to audiovisual products, with presentations, speeches and experimental demonstrations. The Departments’ collections, comprising an estimated 200,000 mineralogical, zoological, botanical and instrumental properties, are represented in the Muniss space, each with a few significant objects.
In addition to the functions of preservation, exhibition and historical research, the museum contributes to the activities of research dissemination and scientific animation carried out by the University through the “Third Mission,” promoting debate on topical scientific issues and public participation. Visitors will also be able to participate in the Entomology workshop, aimed at curious people of all ages, “Insects Food of the Future?” by the Department of Agriculture.
