The MŪSA Archaeological Museum of Alghero was created to acquire, preserve and communicate the historical, social and cultural memory of the city. The collection preserves artifacts traceable to the earliest human settlements in the area, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, discovered during urban and out-of-town excavations. The museum also offers an unprecedented and privileged view of places that can no longer be physically enjoyed but are still the subject of archaeological and anthropological studies and research. Traces of the past define the city’s identity and bring out Alghero’s role over the centuries in Sardinia and the Mediterranean. The layout renders the image of the Catalan city and its inhabitants in an itinerary that unfolds in three thematic sections organized in chronological order. The tour is spread over the building’s two floors through faithful and evocative environmental reconstructions.
