Ethnographic section of MIF, the Candelai House offers visitors a sensory experience. Greeted by the scent of beeswax, an ingredient with which Aunt Savina, the last resident of the ancient house, handcrafted common stearicas and votive offerings, visitors witness the making of candles through the layered casting technique. The rhythmic sound of the loom on which skilled hands weave colorful patterns introduces visitors to the second room dedicated to weaving. The third room, pervaded by the harmonious sound of launeddas, preserves the cuntzertus collection of Uncle Ennio Meloni, maker and player of the historic musical instrument. The fragrance of freshly baked bread concludes the museum tour in the courtyard, ”sa pratza,” where temporary exhibitions and displays of artisan workshops or ancient crafts are set up.
