Opened in 2002 to enhance the value of artifacts from the numerous archaeological sites in the municipal area, the museum is housed in the renovated premises of the former Monte Granitico, an evocative mid-nineteenth-century building located in the central Piazza Risorgimento (Front City Hall). Encompassed within a chronological span from the Prehistoric age to the Early Medieval age (from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the 7th century A.D.), the artifacts are divided into two main sections that illustrate, respectively, both the ancient and dense occupation of the territory and the excavation of the Su Mulinu Nuragic fortress, the only site in the territory currently under scientific investigation. A third section, intended for the visually impaired, consists of a tactile shelf with copies of the most significant exhibits, a reconstructed model and a “braille” display board containing comprehensive hints about the Nuragic fortress.
