“Ottavio Marelli” Elementary School

The “Ottavio Marelli” Elementary School is a rationalist building by Eng.
Attilio Terragni brother of the more famous architect Giuseppe.
The rectilinear body of classrooms is placed parallel to Via Andina; on it is orthogonally grafted the volume of the Auditorium, a forgotten monument of rationalist school that surmounts the partially buried gymnasium.
The volume is suspended on pilotis and extends toward U. da Canturio Street.
For a long time the Auditorium was a prominent public space, the site of lecture cycles, theatrical performances and concerts.
In 1954-1959 in the same street and adjacent to the School was built the State Institute of Art, in a kind of happy alignment of buildings with educational functions.
