Parish Church of Our Lady of Grace

Sanluri, although a small town, has only one parish church, dedicated to “Our Lady of Grace,” the Patroness of Sanluri, whose feast day falls on May 31 each year.

Unfortunately, in the 15th century a violent fire destroyed the Archiepiscopal Archives of Cagliari, so it is very difficult to reconstruct the history of our churches, but although we do not have at our disposal certain dates of the beginning and end of the work, we can nevertheless say that the construction of the present Parish took place in several stages and several times, and that it can be considered to have been truly completed at the end of the 18th century and opened to the public in 1786.

Today it has three naves; at the junction of the main nave with the transept rises the dome on polygonal drum.

Among the valuable works of painting, in addition to the two canvases by Raffaele Arui, should be noted that of Marghinotti, painted in 1843 and placed in the Chapel of Souls. It depicts Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Baby Jesus and an angel freeing a soul from the flames of purgatory. Also worthy of consideration are two 17th-century paintings with episodes from the life of St. Anthony.

Also preserved in the church is, the Retable of St. Anne, a late 16th-century polyptych painted in tempera on wood.
