It is, undoubtedly, the most interesting religious monument because of its size and the architectural and stylistic values it expresses. The beautiful building, in the Gothic-Aragonese style, was consecrated and opened for worship in 1520, but construction was begun several decades earlier. The present building was rebuilt on pre-existing worship facilities that can be traced back to different eras: early Christian age with venerated tomb; Byzantine age with one-nave church; medieval age with three-nave basilica. The interior of the church has undergone numerous restorations. The architectural typology seems to conform to the dominant typology of the cathedral of Alghero, most evident in the forms of the internal structure and in the decorations above the portal. A thorough archaeological survey testifies to how intense and important the village’s cult activity was.
