Quirra Castle

Built by the judges of Cagliari to guard the con ne with the giudicato of Gallura, it was occupied in 1324 by the Aragonese led by Francisco Carroz. Because of its political-strategic, military and economic importance, the castle suffered numerous sieges: having possession of it meant having control not only of the coast, but also of the rich mines located inland. All that remains of the fortress are the ruins that tower over Mount Cudias, a well-preserved cistern for collecting water, and a breathtaking view of the sea and the entire surrounding area for miles. The castle is the scene of numerous legends, mainly concerning the Carroz family, making it a place full of charm and mystery.
