Sa Fogaia Archaeological Nature Park (visit nuraghe)

The Sa Fogaia Nuraghe, built on an overhanging edge at an elevation of 325 m, is located on the eastern slope of the Giara di Siddi, within the Sa Fogaia Archaeological Nature Park, in a dominant position over the surrounding area that makes the place particularly striking.

Built with basalt blocks, this is a very unique complex and irregular nuraghe, which consists of 3 large megalithic bodies, flanked by various secondary constructions. It is one of the most surprising and enigmatic in Sardinia, as well as one of the most archaic.
The first and oldest body of this structure (a corridor nuraghe) shows a peculiar Y-shaped tricuspidate form, with a raised entrance reached by a splendid stepped ramp carved into the wall thickness.
The other two bodies, added in a second, also nuragic, construction phase, abut the main body on two sides and are provided with tholos chambers, rooms, corridors, a courtyard, stairs, etc.

Around the south side and inside the courtyard (both leaning against the nuraghe and abutting it), there are also the remains of several rectangular rooms, related to a phase of reuse of the monument in the Late Punic and Roman periods.
Excavations have uncovered ceramic remains referable to the Middle Bronze Age, along with Late Punic, Roman and even medieval ceramic materials.
