The Sacred Heart Church was built between 1913 and 1934 on the site of the former St. Elias Church, which was closed for worship in 1903 due to instability. The church built with the labor and offerings of the people consecrated in 1935 has a regular three-aisle plan with an apse. Inside are wall paintings with geometric motifs and religious figures, along with finely inlaid decorative elements, such as the marble slabs covering the pulpit and high altar. Of great interest are the 923-pipe organ from 1939 among the most impressive in the diocese and the 1388 bell from St. Barbara’s Church, placed today in the room at the base of the bell tower. The facade is made of exposed square ashlar masonry.
