Sacred Well

On the hill of Cuccuru Nuraxi is a unique sacred well, made towards the end of the Bronze Age.
What makes it original in the first place is its location at a much higher elevation than the water table.
In fact, the cylindrical barrel, lined with rows of stones, crosses almost the entire hill on which the well stands.
Descending for a depth of 12 meters it engages a narrow siphon carved directly into the rock, which descends for another 10 meters.
Another element of originality is the fact that the access staircase does not end directly on the well, but leads into a hypogeic tholos. In the floor of the chamber opens the actual well, surrounded by a circular monolithic ferrule.
