The Saddi Grippo house is one of the few Campidanese mansions still intact and original in the Cagliari area.
Built in the mid-18th century by Pietro Impera Saddi, it is located in the historic center of Pirri.
Here time seems to have stood still.
Adriana Saddi’s children, the current owners, have chosen to preserve it both because it is a place of family memories and to offer Pirri the opportunity to create an ethnographic museum of the area.
A central and significant place where to preserve and tell the story of the origins of a town dedicated to the production of the wine of which this house is representative. The mansion is accessed through a wooden portal that opens onto a stone-paved driveway to facilitate the passage of wagons during harvest time. On either side are three ancient stone seats whose origins date back to a Roman-era pedestal found by the Jesuit Fathers in the countryside around Pirri. The large courtyard is overlooked by the entire architecture of the two-story Campidanese house. On the ground floor were the productive areas such as the loggia, the well and cistern, the large cellar with barrels resting on tuff bases, the wood-burning oven, the work tools, the wine press, the kitchen, as well as two dining rooms, the master bedroom, and the “good” living room.
Two staircases, one in slate and the other in white marble, lead to the upper floor where more bedrooms were made for the masters of the house and servants.
The remarkable size of the house, the beauty of some of the rooms beautifully frescoed by late 19th-century artists, and the family’s original furniture and furnishings make the Saddi Grippo house a true monument to the city of Cagliari.
