The Church of Santa Maria Iscalas stands northwest of Cossoine on the summit of Cossoine at the foot of Mount Traessu.
It is a unique monument because of the Byzantine influences that defined its original Greek-cross plan, with short arms, rebuilt, perhaps, toward the end of the year 1000, on a similar pre-existence.
Later a side aisle was added to serve as a baptistery, where remains of the frescoes that decorated it are preserved.
The entire Chiesetta is built of irregular white limestone stones, including the roofing.
The area was inhabited in prehistoric times; this is evidenced by the domus de janas and a nuraghe, placed not far from the church; in addition, the numerous shards and artifacts scattered, in the surrounding area, indicate its use, around the village of Kourin, which lasted over time until modern times.
