The bridge was built in 1797 near a Roman bridge. In February 1810, the collapse of the bridge caused difficulties for farmers due to the impossibility of crossing and the difficulty in planting and caring for grazing animals. Crossing the river thus represented a great risk evidenced by the deaths of three people in the year 1823. The bridge was rebuilt in 1855 with improvement work in 1862 that included the construction of a stone wall in the two parts of the finiment.. The new construction suffered serious damage in 1892 due to a cloudburst that hit the island. Historical memory from the Ussanesi recalls the episode as “the wave of San Sperate.” It was not until 1960 that a new bridge on the Ussana/Mandas road would be built while the Segafenu Bridge still shows the side destroyed by the San Sperate wave.”
