The Calvary of the monumental complex of the Pontifical Seminary of Cuglieri was an initiative of Jesuit Egidio Boschi. On retreat for spiritual exercises near Reggio Emilia, he was able to admire the statue of the Sacred Heart by artist Carmela Adani. They wanted to place a copy of it on top of the “Calvary” that was being built inside Seminary Park.
The bronze was entrusted to the Battaglia foundry in Milan. The large statue is 3.80 meters high and weighs about eight quintals and was erected on a plinth designed by Sassari architect Vico Mossa. The statue towered above what became the path with the stations of a fine ceramic Stations of the Cross, of which there are, unfortunately, only a few remnants. and some plaster sculptural groups representing Jesus in prayer and the angel of comfort, the Crucifix, the Pieta, and the Sepulcher.
