Shrine of St. Lussorio

Located on the border between Selargius and Monserrato, the shrine was probably built on the ruins of an older place of worship from the 4th century AD, locally believed to be the Martiryum of St. Lussorio. Tradition remembers it as Sa Cresia de is Santus, because the child martyrs Cesello and Camerino are also venerated there. Documents attest it as the church of St. Lucifer de Pau (1089-1090) and only since 1666 with the final form of St. Lussorio. Erected in the 12th century, it was the parish of the village of Pau (or Palma). Dismissed as a parish, it was recognized as a penitential church: indeed, the papal bulls of 1614 and 1619 granted plenary indulgence to all pilgrims who visited the church on the feast of the three saints. Engraved in the door jambs are some “footprints” typical of churches placed along pilgrimage routes. Notable inside is the strigilated sarcophagus from the Roman period. The church has been on the list of Christian Sanctuaries of Italy since 2000.
