Certain records of the church of San Bernardino as a parish of Mogoro date back to 1589, but its construction is earlier. Throughout history, several restorations brought it to its present conformation. In the year 1604, an extraordinary event occurred inside the church marking its history: the great Eucharistic Miracle. It happened that, on the day after Easter 1604, April 19, while the Rector Priest Salvatore Spiga was distributing Communion, some unworthy people having approached, the particle, as if burning their tongues, was dropped by them on the stone of the balustrade. The sacrilegious ones, full of confusion, vanished: the sacred Particles were picked up and the stone was carefully washed. To the amazement of those present, they noticed the mark left on the stone that is still visible today. This fact led the present church to hold precious friezes and treasures.
