Work on the church of St. Joseph began in 1992 at the behest of then-Bishop Antioco Piseddu, designed by engineer Giorgio Cavallo, and was completed in 1995.
The church is positioned in the center of a beautiful square enriched by ample green spaces.
It presents a horizontal barycenter interrupted by the presence of a spindly-shaped bell tower.
Beautiful is the glimpse the visitor has when from the entrance driveway he raises his gaze to the main facade.
The play of light created by the polychrome stained glass windows envelops the viewer and creates an atmosphere of ascetic meditation.
The dominant material is reinforced concrete, offset by the brightness of the glass, the mosaics of the way of the cross, and the rich flooring.
The building’s lines are essential with a modernist effort traceable more in the external apparatus than in the decorations inside.
In 2015 the church underwent, at the behest of Bishop Antonello Mura, current bishop of Lanusei, a liturgical adjustment of the presbytery.
The work strengthened the ambo, the altar and enhanced the tabernacle.
Currently, the church of St. Joseph is the center of diocesan ecclesiastical conferences.
