Constructed between 1932 and 1936, the St. Joseph Schoolhouse was built to bring together in one building the various classrooms housed in buildings in the city’s historic center that were unsuitable for the functions proper to an educational institution. Designed by architect Oggiano it was built by the Boer company. Made in pure rationalist style, it presents the traditional U-shaped layout. Details not usual in a schoolhouse can be admired there: the very elegant ceiling lights, the wide corridors, and the SCUOLA lettering in the floor and lintel that echo the graphic patterns of the time. The Hall of Memories houses and is visible to visitors school furniture and materials, records and documents that tell the story of school life within the walls of the old school from its origins.
