The church of St. Joseph Patriarch was built in 1652 as a vow because of a locust invasion and following a plague epidemic that struck the town of Samassi.
The exterior facade has a simple rectangular elevation with a flat finial on which a bell gable rises. Above the wooden portal is the coat of arms with the anagram of Christ. The latter is also shown in the pavement prior to the church entrance.
The sacristy and side chapels, now dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Bonaria, were built the following century with money from the population. The church has Greek-Byzantine influences: it has a single nave characterized by a barrel vault that in 1956 was enriched with scenes from the life of St. Joseph, created by Guglielmo Concu of Samass.
