The Listincheddu state-owned compendium is located south of the city, about 6 km from the town. It consists of 16 buildings spread over an area of about two hectares completely fenced by high walls equipped with guardhouses. The complex is nestled within narrow hill gullies and is almost invisible from the outside. It is an area rich in vegetation and tall trees.
The military depot was built in 1896 when the Ministry of War recognized Ozieri’s militarily strategic position. According to U.S. and British intelligence documents during the fascist era, large quantities of biological and chemical weapons were stored here. Buildings within it housed artisan workshops, staff quarters with related offices and services, and explosives and chemical weapons stores. In 1976 the area was reclaimed and has not been military land since 2006.
