In the heart of Terralba’s historic center, on Roma Street, is “Su Magasinu de Akraxiu,” the old building dating back to the late 19th century and owned by the Vaccargiu family since the mid-1920s.
In 2018, the structure was restored to preserve its Historical Memory, and from cellar “magasinu po su bi(n)u” was born a cultural space, where two city associations “Granate Rosa and Selas” operate, which, through their activities propose historical – socio-cultural themes. The activities carried out by the two associations aim to preserve the identity heritage, also, to those values inherent in the Constitutional Charter by creating moments of participatory relations, discussion, socialization and inclusion, through cultural exchange.
Su Magasinu de Akraxiu has an area of 100 square meters and its shape is irregular rectangular plan. The building retains, after restoration, all its architectural forms and some original features such as the two entrances, the small windows with the original wooden frame, the trusses, the “ladiri” mud bricks, and the stone basement. The interior wall structure, on the other hand, after the conservation restoration, keeps intact some walls, which show some pencil-written notations (counts, names, liters of wine) testifying to the lively activity inside the winery. The building originally had no floor. Now the floor consists of antique tiles, the classic cement tiles, which with their polychromy enhance the environment. Of particular note are the two murals one of which represents three generations of the Vaccargiu family. In the other, made on an old walled window, it was intended to, virtually, reopen the window to the past and, offer the same view of the mid-nineteenth century. In the room there are six display cases, where the following are periodically displayed: clothing, trousseaus and documents. Along the walls are exhibits of rural and domestic traditions. An exhibition inherent to the activity of viticulture in Terralba will be set up for the occasion.
