The Country Museum

Fifty years of the Country Museum The land at the roots of Art.
In 1968 San Sperate appeared as one of many agricultural towns, characterized by simple architecture dominated by earth.
In ladiri were the houses in the historic center, in rammed earth the streets.
Pinuccio Sciola, with an intuition that would prove brilliant, reinvented the architectural spaces and linked a personal history to that of the community.
He chose the most difficult road and opened his native village to the world’s cultural ferment, enthusiastically supported by a motivated and enlightened youth, who in June 1968 transformed an earthen village into a white-walled town that was about to become a new project area: the Country Museum became a strong draw for artists from all over the world.
In the early 2000s, Pinuccio Sciola gave new impetus to the Paese Museo’s cultural activities, creating the Noarte event that he would consolidate into an association.
On the 50th anniversary of the birth of Sperino muralism, the Municipal Administration has declared 2018 as the “Year of the Country Museum,” with initiatives, events, and international cultural activities.
The focus of the initiatives will be an exaltation of art as an engine of cultural and social development and will culminate in the creation of a multifunctional space to be used as an International Center for cultural exchanges and comparisons.
