“The Eel of Mars” by Salvatore Garau.

The huge sculpture of the Eel, is an extreme synthesis of Santa Giusta’s culture. The visually striking work has quickly become the most popular sculpture in Sardinia. Born almost as a joke from the visionary mind of Salvatore Garau, at 12 meters high it towers elegantly in the square. The 6 tons of wrought iron, show no heaviness, but suggest the svelte and sinuous shape of the eel, as if it were ready to sink completely under the earth to reach the nearby pond. The sculpture has plummeted from another planet to visit its smaller cousins, and to remind us that Art is meant to amaze and create dialogue.
