The Orchid Garden

Afni Sardinia celebrates Monumenti Aperti through the natural monuments found in Marceddi. In the lush pine forest adjacent to the orchid garden, there will be an exhibition of protected wild orchids found in the garden and beyond. Many species will be in bloom by now, but through the exhibition their beauty can be admired. Members of Afni Sardegna will accompany visitors to discover these wonders and disseminate notions about the surrounding nature.
In the area of Marceddi the species surveyed so far are 10 of 4 different genera, and as many as 4 important hybrids, one of which is quite rare.
The orchid garden initiative was taken over by the associations Afni (Association of Photographers, Italian Naturalists), Lipu (Bird Protection League) and of Giros (Italian wild orchid research group). The initiative was then presented to the municipal administration of Terralba, which gives support to it every year .
An important role was then played by the Forestas Agency, which contributed to the realization of the garden.
In the season from February to the end of May, one can observe at the same time so many orchid flowers of the various species present, thus creating patches of color that paint the whole area.
The establishment of the Garden is of great importance because it represents a small jewel of biodiversity.
