Tiscali Campus

It is located in the Sa Illetta locality, just outside the city, surrounded by the Santa Gilla lagoon in a large flat area. It consists of four buildings connected to each other to form a single building identity in relation to the natural surroundings in which they are immersed. They are joined by a web-farm and a baby park for employees’ children. Realized in 2000-2003 according to the design of Aldo Rossi Associati studio, the ensemble of building bodies follows a concept of aggregation that, through repetition and union, concurs to form a single building identity of clear identification. Repetition, union and variation are the concepts followed to compose the Sa Illetta complex, almost as if it were a musical score, with alternating solids and voids analogous to a piano keyboard, whose interdependence generates different sounds and tones. The buildings are constructed by means of in-line elements, composed of walls that follow the north/south direction and in which horizontal glazing is open interspersed with solid parts. All the buildings are connected to each other on the ground floor by an open arcade, while the spaces between the different buildings are characterized by various types of courtyards: some arcaded, some planted as gardens, and some designed and paved as small squares. The exterior materials are based on traditional Sardinian materials, but are laid using modern techniques that ensure ease of maintenance and repair. Red trachyte cladding on walls with Orosei marble bands was chosen for the wall parts. The entrance building, which houses the foyer and an auditorium for 200 people, is flanked by two symmetrical bodies for offices and meeting rooms. In the outer part of the campus, however, are the buildings reserved for functional and operational purposes. Located inside and outside are numerous works of art by 20th-century artists including sculptures by Costantino Nivola and interventions by Maria Lai.
