Tower of Mariano II

The tower, erected at the northern entrance to the city in 1290, is attributed to the work of Judge Marian II. Raised on a row of basalt blocks, it is otherwise built entirely of squared sandstone ashlars. The main body, 19 meters high, is topped by Guelph battlements. It completes a turret nearly ten meters high, topped by three Guelph battlements on each side.
