Tower of Port Coral

Located on the small hill overlooking the marina, the tower was built in 1592 and subsequently expanded several times. Cylindrical in shape and of considerable size, it is in visual contact with the towers located to the north and south. It was a building of great strategic importance; in fact, its location allowed it to control both the Flumendosa delta and the commercial port used to traffic minerals and the coral richly found in the area.

The tower suffered several attacks, the last in 1812 by a fleet from Tunisia.

Having completed the purpose for which it was built, the tower has been almost continuously used to the present day with other functions, so it is in an excellent state of preservation and can be visited inside.

Unforgettable views of the entire coastline can be seen from the windows.

An exhibition of traditional Sarrabian textiles and more, made entirely by hand by the “Tessere Relazioni” workshop in Villaputzu using ancient weaving techniques, will be on display inside the tower.
