The Museum and Documentation Center owes its name to the history of the ancient foundry in Villacidro and the modern foundry in San Gavino Monreale. The museum is housed inside the former railroad warehouses, once a hub for the raw material that was transported from the Montevecchio mine for processing at the San Gavino foundry.
The Two Foundries Museum bears witness to the immense legacy left by the metallurgical activity that marked the development of the territory and characterized the transition from an agro-pastoral community to an industrialized reality. The rich cultural, material and intangible heritage of the area’s foundries is collected, safeguarded and passed on to new generations. Its interior houses an exhibit that includes recorded oral testimonies, objects and documents related to factory life and work. There is also a screening area dedicated to viewing and listening to the collected testimonies: films, documentaries and interviews.
