Spendula in Sardinian means waterfall, which is precisely why the one in Villacidro is, in the imagination of Sardinians, the waterfall by definition, perhaps the most beautiful in all of Sardinia.
The Sa Spendula Waterfall is located in a fascinating natural landscape and is fed by the waters of the Rio Coxinas, which, after the striking three jumps, continues its flow in the Campidano region under the name Rio Seddanus.
In 1882, Gabriele d’Annunzio, in the company of Cesare Pascarella, Edoardo Scarfoglio and Ranieri Ugo, guided by Prof. Giuseppe Todde, visited the Sa Spendula waterfall to which he dedicated a sonnet, published on May 21 of that year in the newspaper “Capitan Fracassa” under the pseudonym Mario de’ Fiori.
The waterfall is located about a kilometer from the town and is easily accessible by car.
