Twenty-seven editions and not feeling it: the event founded in 1997 confirms its centrality in the city’s cultural offerings again this year. As of 6 p.m., two hours after most sites closed and with visits still going on, there were
more than 71,000 signatures
in the registers present.
Thus Massimiliano Messina, president of the Imago Mundi OdV association: “Before the start of this XXVII edition we wanted to talk about a new spring, a ‘re-birth’ of the Open Monuments project. Well, what was a perception, net, has been confirmed, as we hoped, by the reality data. In the capital city, a large number of Cagliari residents, and many tourists, reacquainted themselves with the city, peacefully invaded it, enthusiastically filling its places with culture, art and history. The air of pre-pandemic community celebration was breathed in again, and stepping back in time we are reminded of the suggestions and atmosphere, indelible memories, that enraptured us and Cagliari in the first, extraordinary edition of Monumenti Aperti back in 1997. We look to the future definitely with renewed confidence.”
