In the succession of the editions of Monumenti Aperti, Imago Mundi OdV, the organizing association of the event, has created several special projects designed and implemented for Monumenti Aperti, and some of these projects have been, then, imported to other regional entities.
OPEN MONUMENTS AND SARDINIA TOWARDS UNESCO. Of note is the partnership between Imago Mundi and the Association “Sardinia towards UNESCO,” which takes the form of “Nuragic Paths,” a fascinating journey to discover the treasures of our island’s millenary Nuragic civilization. The initiative is developed through a rich calendar of guided tours to 30 nuragic sites, spread between the months of May, June and October 2025 as part of the Monumenti Aperti event. These are the municipalities involved: Alghero, Arbus, Calangianus, Carbonia, Genuri, Golfo Aranci, Gonnosfanadiga, Lunamatrona, Mogoro, Olbia, Oschiri, Ossi, Pabillonis, Padria, Sarroch, Settimo San Pietro, Siddi, Stintino, Tertenia, Tortolì and Triei.
This is an important cultural promotion action in support of the candidacy of the monuments of the Nuragic civilization in the UNESCO World Heritage List. An ambitious project, promoted by the association “Sardinia Towards UNESCO” with the active support of numerous Sardinian municipalities adhering to it, which has already given rise to an intense activity of awareness and dissemination: exhibitions, meetings in schools, moments of discussion with local communities, all designed to involve citizens and actors in the territory in a path of rediscovery and enhancement of the ancient Sardinian civilization.
Culture Without Barriers was established as a project to raise awareness of those with temporary or permanent disadvantages and disabilities. In addition to Cagliari, the project was also implemented in other municipalities, where they wanted to give importance and attention to such a sensitive issue that is often ignored.
In almost all municipalities that join the Monumenti Aperti circuit, the project of Taste the City . All food and beverage establishments are invited to keep their businesses open on Open Monuments days. Commerce and Culture unite with the aim of promoting cultural tourism in stores and restaurants. Stores selling handicrafts and local products are especially involved. In addition, bars, restaurants, trattorias, pizzerias, and ice cream parlors offer menus dedicated to the event.
For just 3 years now, the Association has also commissioned a special heritage writing and storytelling project The Words of Beauty , dedicated to primary and secondary school students, designed by writer Luigi Dal Cin.
On the occasion of Cagliari Monumenti Aperti , the special project was born. The Tales of Open Monuments. One or more professional writers, Sardinian but not limited to, are involved, each of whom is commissioned to write an original work inspired by a city monument among those featured in the event. Writers are asked to witness the city and give monuments different identities, turning them into even unintentional protagonists of new stories.
The longest-running side initiative, however, is, Monuments in Music&Shows. , which has been an integral part of the event since the first edition. As early as 1997, concerts and musical performances accompanying the monument visit were organized in some of the monuments opened for the event. Over the years this formula has intensified both in the Sardinian capital itself and in some of the island’s municipalities that are part of the Monumenti Aperti circuit.
