Ballao

Ballao/Ballau is located in the center of Gerrei and is the crossroads between Parteolla and Ogliastra, between Sarrabus and Trexenta. A strategic road junction combined with the great resource of the river: the town unfolds on a bend of the Flumendosa in the valley surrounded by hills. The catch has provided a rich food source for millennia and originated the River Culture that characterizes the new DoSA Museum Center. The Nuragic age marked the territory with villages, sacred wells (including Funtana Coberta), and tombs of giants; little remains of Punic, Roman and Byzantine (Santa Crara and Santaruxi). From the Judicial age was the village of Nuraxi, whose church is the destination of the heartfelt Easter Monday festival. Mining activity dates back to the 1700s, first with Sa Mina and then Corti Rosas, the pearl overlooking the town.
The Highlands of Murdega, Is Tancas and Nuraxi, the river and archaeological sites, mine, country churches, DoSA Museum Center, and the remarkable glimpses of the center built of limestone: Ballau, totu custu e àteru.
