Villanova Route, The Thirtyfooter

After last year’s success in the streets of the Marina district, for the 2013 edition the Thirty Feet of Monuments will wander around Villanova. Thanks to the system designed by the students of the University of Cagliari involved in the activity of the Laboratory of Didactics and Communication of Cultural Heritage, the historic district as a whole will be able to be rediscovered as a cultural site to be reappropriated.

A pedestrian convoy, equipped with a train conductor and a human locomotive, will leave at regular intervals from the terminus, in Piazza Costituzione (at the foot of the Bastion of St. Remy) and will travel through the streets of the neighborhood, pointing out monuments, archaeological sites and special sights. Respecting the theme of the event, centered on the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Cagliari, the Monuments Thirtyfoot will guide visitors to discover the reconstruction, including cultural reconstruction, of the city, emphasizing the phases of Villanova’s life before and after the 1943 aerial bombardment.

The circuit is organized in 12 stages: in addition to the terminus, six stops and five exchange stations. These correspond to as many places, where it will be possible to leave the human convoy to visit – with the guidance of students and volunteers – the individual site or monument, or continue exploring the neighborhood according to the guided route.
