Archaeological Area of Pani Loriga

The hill of Pani Loriga, known for its archaeological aspects and extraordinarily preserved environmental context, has risen to public attention due to its recent stable opening to visitors.
The archaeological complex, which is being investigated by the Institute of Ancient Mediterranean Studies (ISMA) of the CNR, makes a fundamental contribution to the reconstruction of ancient human settlement in Sulcis.
In fact, the vast hill covered with centuries-old wild olive trees tells five thousand years of history, from the Neolithic necropolis to domus de janas to the Diana nuraghe on the top of the plateau, to the more than 150 Phoenician burials investigated.
And again, the Punic phase, with the hypogeic necropolis but above all the urban architecture, where the absence of building overlays has preserved in exceptional condition the wall structures of a city that dominated the hinterland and the sea.
