Archaeological Museum of Teti

II Archaeological Museum of Teti was born as a comprensorial museum, intended to house the materials found in the territory of the district N. 12, which in the region Barbagia-Mandrolisai, embraces the municipalities of Aritzo, Atzara, Austis, Belvì, Desulo, Gadoni, Meana Sardo, Ortueri, Ovodda, Sórgono, Teti, Tiana, Tonara. The choice of the museum’s location in Teti stems from distant, strictly archaeological reasons and from the right response of the local administration, which, wishing to pursue a policy of recovery and enhancement of the territory, recognized an important role for archaeology, promoting the birth of a museum structure, which would serve as a collection point for its archaeological heritage and the surrounding territory. The month of September 1865 marks the entry of Teti into the archaeology chronicles, which tell of a boy, inspired by recurring dreams, who convinced some peasants to carry out excavations in the Abini locality at the spot where the remains of an ancient building surfaced. The excavation uncovered a deposit of bronze votive objects contained in a lithic cista. The site of the find, called “Sa badde de sa domo” or “Sa badde de sa bidda,” had a sinister reputation; in fact, it was indicated as the seat of evil spirits, and this reputation, transformed into oral tradition, made the story of the find become, over time, almost a legend. The museum building, built from scratch with regional funding, has modern architecture and consists of two elongated octagonal bodies of different sizes, connected externally on the longer sides by a flight of stairs. The museum exhibition is developed from the large maps of the territory forming part of the Comprensorio
Community No. 12, in which the best-known sites that have returned evidence from different eras are indicated, with a particular abundance of data on the municipalities of the Comprensorio.
