The Baccarini pit constitutes an example of industrial archeology present in the area, a sign of a glorious mining past.
On July 3, 1880, during a visit by Minister of Infrastructure Alfredo Baccarini, work began on the construction site for the shaft.
It was a pharaonic work for those times that in 1889 reached the Monteponi mine.
Later in the years leading up to World War II the site was used as a military garrison.
Within it today are still the remains of various buildings from the site.
